About The Clinician

Teresa Pilegaard is a certified therapeutic riding instructor, certified Train Your Seat Pelvis Biomechanics Coach, Franklin Ball Certified, and finishing her Spine Biomechanics Coach certification. Teresa runs adaptive riding program Dorato Performance Horses in Hume, VA, focusing on improving ridden outcomes for horse and rider through connected groundwork and embodied rider biomechanics. She loves co-teaching with her partners, the Dorato lesson horses. Her online platform, “Everyday Equestrian”, is for the rider who wants to dive deeper and focus on building positive, daily wins. Teresa loves classical dressage, human biomechanics, obstacle-based horse sports, equine neuroscience, and liberty work, all of which she utilizes in her lesson program. Teresa owes the depth of her education to thoroughbreds and in 2023 competed at the Retired Racehorse Project with her "former broodmare" Brooke's Appeal, taking first in their competitive trail division. Teresa is also the founder and executive director of North Star Stables NOVA, a 501c3 to support therapeutic/adaptive riding. North Star offers financial aid for therapeutic riding and subsidized continuing education for instructors to help improve equine welfare and outcomes in equine assisted services. Teresa's hope for the horse world is that we move toward a coaching model where horse and human are empowered, as individuals and in partnership, to be their best selves in and out of the arena.
